… for the people of this nation to hold accountable those that serve the public interest? Or are we just too into our own affairs to notice that political pundits, special interests, trial lawyers, and narcissistic elitists and politicians are stripping away the rights of every member of this nation on a daily basis?
Isn’t it about time for us to ask some honest questions of ourselves and those elected and demand honest answers? Shouldn’t we know where these trillions of dollars are going, for instance? And shouldn’t we reject the media and beltway elites babble of how us common folk just don’t get it?
If we don’t “get” it, then its because of their actions and our ineptitude allowing them to remain in power. Just the fact that they are passing laws that only they and their herd of ivy league educated financial czars and wizards of jurisprudence can understand bespeaks volumes. If the people cannot easily digest what they are legislating, just how in the hell is that
…”government: of the people, by the people, for the people”
… as Abraham Lincoln put it on November 19th 1863?
How many more years are we going to set back and watch the foundations of our nations be eroded by the negligence of its elected officials and the pervasive apathetic nature of its masses towards the Founder’s principles of freedom and liberty?
This nation needs informed men and women participating, not through civil-disobedience or insurrection, but by correcting of the wrongful thinking that diseases the body general of this great nation. It is time for Americans to be Americans.
When more people tune in to vote for their favorite American idol then turn out to vote for the elected officials of this nation we have trouble. When those that vote spend more time searching youtube than honestly researching exactly who they are voting for, the trouble increases. When the decision of who to vote for is based upon shallow traditions, peer pressure, or campaign slogans and sound bites, we get exactly what we have and deserved. A government on all levels filled with clowns that couldn’t identify freedom and liberty if it landed on them wearing a flashing neon sign and playing the Star-Spangled Banner.
This nation needs us, like never before in our lifetime. It doesn’t need office mongering politicians that get their direction from popularity polls, publicists, message managers, Hollywood stars or teleprompters. It needs each of us to be citizens of the United States of America, not by birth right, but in spite of it.
"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777
